Zelenskyy’s warning on Russian airspace sends Aeroflot shares down more than 5%

According to data from the Moscow Exchange, Aeroflot shares fell 5.11% immediately after the Ukrainian president's statement, hitting a low of 30.36 rubles per share.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian airspace was becoming dangerous for airlines, insurers and other participants in international air travel.

"Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer and everyone who still uses key Russian airports: Russian skies are becoming completely unsafe," Zelenskyy said.

The president said Russian airspace would gradually close because of the war launched by Russia.

"The war launched by Russia is closing its skies," Zelenskyy said.

He said Ukraine does not want civilian casualties and is therefore warning other countries about the dangers associated with flights over Russian territory.

Russia quickly responded, with Vladimir Putin saying the country's armed forces had already been instructed to prepare and carry out massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
