Five babies born at Kyiv Perinatal Center during Russia’s mass overnight attack

“Five children were born at the Kyiv Perinatal Center during one of the most terrifying nights for the capital, when the city was under a massive attack by Russian missiles and drones,” medical director Dmytro Hovsieiev said.

He also thanked the hospital’s medical staff — including midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and nurses — who continued caring for mothers and newborns throughout the night despite the bombardment.

Russia’s mass attack overnight into June 2

Overnight into June 2, Russian forces launched Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine. Ukraine’s Air Force also reported launches of Kalibr cruise missiles.

In Kyiv, six people were killed, and 79 were injured, including three children. Residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and other sites were damaged in eight districts of the capital, where emergency crews were still working to deal with the aftermath.

Explosions were also heard in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, and Sumy.

In total, Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with 656 drones and 73 missiles, including eight Zircon missiles and 33 ballistic missiles. Officials reported impacts from 30 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and 33 drones at 38 locations. Debris from downed drones also fell at at least 15 sites.
