Ukraine first had four representatives in the second round of the US Open in 2020, when Kateryna Baindl, Kateryna Volodko, Dayana Yastremska and Marta Kostyuk all advanced.
This year, Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, Oleksandra Oliynykova and Yuliia Starodubtseva reached the second round.
Their second-round opponents are:
- Marta Kostyuk — Sloane Stephens (United States);
- Elina Svitolina — Maya Joint (Australia);
- Oleksandra Oliynykova — Alexandra Eala (Philippines);
- Yuliia Starodubtseva — Maria Sakkari (Greece).
Kostyuk defeated Australia’s Storm Hunter in straight sets to advance to the second round.
Yastremska, meanwhile, became the first Ukrainian player eliminated from this year’s US Open.
Svitolina, Ukraine’s top-ranked women’s player, also advanced to the second round after winning her opening match.
Starodubtseva successfully began her US Open campaign as well, while Oliynykova recorded the first main-draw US Open victory of her career.
