Kremlin claims end of war must be 'agreed upon' with Ukraine, not USA

Speaking to the journalists, he repeated the narrative that Russia must achieve the "goals" it set at the start of its full-scale invasion.

He cynically described the war in Ukraine as “too complex” to end immediately, and once again claimed that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin supposedly favors a “peaceful diplomatic resolution.”

“At this stage, the president remains open to political and diplomatic methods of conflict resolution,"  Peskov cynically declared. 

"But we hear no response from Kyiv, the process is ongoing.”

On April 22, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Russia in any format — but only after a ceasefire is established.

On April 26, Peskov said that Russian dictator Putin is allegedly ready to resume negotiations with Ukraine “without preconditions.”

On April 28, Putin announced a new “ceasefire” in honor of May 9, to last three days — from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 11. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov later stated that the so-called “ceasefire” marked “the beginning of direct talks with Ukraine without preconditions.”

In response, Zelenskyy said the ceasefire must last at least 30 days and called the new “truce” a manipulation.
