Kremlin confirms no rush to finalize Power of Siberia 2 gas contracts

“These are commercial negotiations, and no one is trying to tie them to a specific date or visit," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, according to Interfax. "There are always nuances in such talks, and they are being discussed between the countries involved. Once the negotiations are complete, results will be announced.” 

Peskov’s comments came in response to a question about when contracts for the gas supply via Power of Siberia 2 might be expected.

Earlier, during a visit to Mongolia, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned that Russia is considering the possibility of supplying “cheap gas” to Mongolia if the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline to China is constructed.

The Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, which would span 6,700 kilometers with an annual capacity of 50 billion cubic meters of gas, is planned to pass through Mongolia. Negotiations on the construction of the pipeline have been ongoing for several years.
