Putin threatens retaliation after Zelenskyy warns airlines Russian skies are increasingly unsafe

Putin made the remarks at a press conference following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, Russian outlet Meduza reported on Sep. 1. 

Asked by Russian media about Zelenskyy’s statement, Putin said he had not heard it but claimed that “if this was said out loud, then it is a bid for state terrorism.”

“We do not negotiate with terrorists,” Putin added.

He also threatened a Russian response.

“We will find a way to respond. Let no one doubt that,” Putin said.

Putin also said Russian forces had already been ordered to prepare massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Zelenskyy warns airlines about Russian airspace

Zelenskyy earlier said Ukraine was beginning to effectively “close the skies” over Russia, warning that the growing presence of drones was making Russian airspace increasingly dangerous for civilian aviation.

The Ukrainian president emphasized that Ukraine does not threaten civilian aircraft.

His statement was instead a warning to international airlines, insurers and other aviation industry participants about the growing risks of operating in Russian airspace amid the war and widespread drone activity.
