Azerbaijan overtakes Russia to become Turkey's largest pipeline gas supplier

Azerbaijan was Turkey's largest supplier of pipeline gas in June, delivering 1.012 billion cubic meters, down 1% from June 2025.

Iran increased its pipeline gas supplies by 27% in June to 883 million cubic meters.

Russian gas monopoly Gazprom cut pipeline gas supplies to Turkey through the Blue Stream and TurkStream pipelines by 9% from June 2025 to 882 million cubic meters.

In the first half of 2026, Turkey increased pipeline gas imports by 2% to 20.494 billion cubic meters.

During the first half of the year, Gazprom cut gas supplies to Turkey by 5% to 10.466 billion cubic meters, while supplies from Azerbaijan fell 5% to 5.506 billion cubic meters. Iran, meanwhile, increased supplies by 34% to 4.536 billion cubic meters.

"After reaching record highs in winter, liquefied natural gas imports fell to a seasonal low in June of 282 million cubic meters, or 217,000 metric tons," Interfax reported. "Turkey's LNG import terminals operated at 8% capacity. Algeria, a long-term supplier, remained the only LNG exporter. LNG imports from the United States stopped for the first time after nine consecutive months of deliveries."

As previously reported, in June, Turkish state energy company Botas signed a 15-year agreement with SOCAR, TotalEnergies and ADNOC for gas supplies from Azerbaijan's Absheron field.

The agreement provides for the delivery of a total of 33 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to Turkey over 15 years beginning in 2029.

Gazprom supplied 21.16 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey in 2025, remaining nearly unchanged from 2024.

In December 2025, Turkey extended two Russian gas import contracts for one year, with a combined volume of 22 billion cubic meters.

Turkey imports Russian gas through the Blue Stream and TurkStream pipelines.

In 2024, Turkey imported 52 billion cubic meters of natural gas, including 21 billion cubic meters from Russia.
