Ukraine confirms strike on St. Petersburg Oil Terminal 850 kilometers from border

The strike triggered a large fire at the facility.

The attack was carried out by Ukraine's Special Operations Forces in coordination with the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed strikes on oil infrastructure near St. Petersburg and said Ukrainian forces also hit a Russian military base in Kronstadt. The targets are located more than 850 kilometers (530 miles) from Ukraine's border, he said.

The St. Petersburg Oil Terminal is one of Russia's key Baltic export hubs for petroleum products, handling tanker shipments to Africa, the Middle East and other destinations.

Explosions were reported in St. Petersburg overnight and into the morning of July 4, with monitoring channels reporting strikes on the port and the oil terminal. Russian regional authorities said the city had come under a large-scale drone attack involving dozens of UAVs and reported "falling debris" in the port of Vysotsk in Leningrad Oblast.
