Zaluzhnyi warns against quick-peace hopes after Russia’s deadly Kyiv attack

Commenting on the overnight Russian attack on Telegram, Zaluzhnyi said Russia had once again demonstrated its “desire” for peace.

“By cowardly killing civilians at night and destroying people’s homes. Such massive attacks are further proof that illusions that the war will end soon are misleading. Our partners must understand this reality as well,” he said.

The former commander-in-chief called for increased pressure on Moscow to make the war too costly for it to continue.

Russia’s massive attack on Kyiv on July 2

Overnight on July 2, Russia launched a combined attack on Ukraine with nearly 500 drones and 74 missiles, including Zircon missiles, ballistic Iskander missiles and cruise missiles. Kyiv was the main target, with powerful explosions heard across the capital.

Damage was reported at 30 sites across all districts of the capital, including direct hits on apartment buildings. A residential building in the Darnytskyi district was hit hardest, and a rescue operation is ongoing there. In all, 20 apartment buildings were damaged in the city, along with a hotel, an emergency medical services substation and private homes.

As of 12:48 p.m., 17 people were reported killed and nearly 90 injured.
