Okean Elzy helps raise UAH 5 million for Kherson’s State Emergency Services in a single day
The day Russian forces detonated the
Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, legendary
Ukrainian rock band Okean Elzy urged people to donate to the Kherson State
Emergency Service. A few days later, the group revealed that Ukrainians had
donated 5 million UAH ($315,000) in aid in the first 24 hours.
“When we received a message from our friends at the Rescue Service Aid Foundation on June 6 at 9 a.m., calling for the urgent purchase of motor pumps for the Kherson State Emergency Service, we immediately donated 150,000 UAH ($4,000) and asked you, if possible, to join the fundraising efforts through the Ukrainian Firefighters Fund. Within a day, you raised 5 million UAH!” the band wrote in their post.
Initially, the foundation planned to purchase only equipment for water pumping to enable rescuers to protect critical infrastructure from flooding.
As a result of the campaign, the foundation has already purchased 12 motor pumps, including two powerful pumps, as well as 500 meters of suction hoses, a boat, a carriage to haul the equipment, and an engine. The equipment is already en route to Kherson.
“Thanks to you, Ukrainians, the equipment for professional rescue divers from the State Emergency Service has been purchased. It includes a range of items, from hydro suits, masks, and special tools to buoyancy compensators and transceivers, to full-face masks with microphones!” the band said.
Okean Elzy calls on everyone to join the cause, as the Ukrainian Firefighters Fund continues to collect donations to support Kherson’s rescuers. Their goal is to fully meet the equipment and gear needs of divers and underwater specialists. You can participate by following this link.
