Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska met in Turkey with orphans evacuated from the Sonechko children’s home in Odesa at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, she said on Facebook July 8.
A separate space, Eryaman Çocuk Evi, was created for the children and their caregivers, offering “comfortable classrooms, meals, quality medical care and rehabilitation,” Zelenska said.
Most of the children from Sonechko have disabilities or complex diagnoses.
A total of 34 children were evacuated to Turkey.
Twenty-nine of them have gradually found Ukrainian families, mostly those living in Turkey, who took them under guardianship with the possibility of adoption.
Five children currently live at Eryaman Çocuk Evi: 7-year-old Andriy, 9-year-old Oleksiy, 10-year-old Artem, 9-year-old Anastasia and 11-year-old Mykhailo, Zelenska said.
“They tell us how they live and study, following both the Ukrainian and Turkish curricula, how they spend their free time and what they dream about,” Zelenska wrote.
“Of course, among those dreams is a family,” she added.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
