Ukraine to participate in European Judo Championship despite Russian, Belarusian presence

The Judo Federation of Ukraine has confirmed that it will participate in the upcoming European Judo Championship on Nov. 3 to 5 in Montpellier, France, despite the presence of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
According to an official statement from the Judo Federation of Ukraine, in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, formal letters were sent to the International Judo Federation (IJF) and the European Judo Union (EJU) calling for the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
The letters highlighted the involvement of judokas from these countries in their respective military and security forces, and their support for the war against Ukraine.
Despite these appeals, the IJF and EJU have chosen to allow 21 athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the European Championship.
The potential exclusion of Ukrainian judokas from the European Championship could jeopardize their qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.
