Ukraine seizes $10 million worth of assets linked to former MPs Medvedchuk and Kozak

The court ruled to transfer to the state control several
companies worth about UAH 400 million ($10 million) belonging to the brothers
of former Ukrainian MPs from the banned Opposition Platform – For Life (OPFL)
party, Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak, who are suspected of treason, Ukraine’s
SBU Security Service reported on Facebook on July 30.
“The property and corporate rights of the construction
companies Betonbud and Capital Plaza, registered in Lviv, 50% of the corporate
rights of Halytske Perekhrestia LLC, the ultimate owners of which are
Medvedchuk and Kozak’s brothers, will be transferred to the state,” the State
Bureau of Investigation (SBI) wrote the same day.
The property and corporate rights of the Transmonolitavto
transport company, owned by Taras Kozak’s brother Bohdan, were also transferred
to state control.
“In total, production facilities, a laboratory building and
warehouses with a total area of more than 10.2 thousand square meters, a land
plot of more than 7 hectares, 74 cars, two forklifts, four excavators, a
bulldozer and a motor grader, non-residential premises in Kyiv with an area of
167 square meters have been seized and will be transferred to the state,” the
SBI said.
Land plots obtained for free by the Medvedchuk and Kozak
brothers’ firms from a territorial community in Lviv Oblast have also been
seized.
“The land, which according to the documents is intended for
agricultural purposes, actually has significant gas deposits. Therefore, the
defendants planned to make money by exploiting the Ukrainian subsoil”.
Last June, SBI handed over 17 cars of the families of former lawmakers from
the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras
Kozak, to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The SBI seized the vehicles as part of this proceeding in
April 2022. The officers then managed to have the cars transferred to the Armed
Forces of Ukraine.
In July 2022, law enforcement officers sized and then handed
over to the Ukrainian Army an airplane and a helicopter belonging to Medvedchuk’s
family.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
