The U.S. Office of Government Ethics released information on President Donald Trump's income from cryptocurrency and other sources. The document shows how much Amazon paid him for a documentary about Melania Trump, Euronews reported on July 2.
The agency published a 927-page document detailing the American president's income during his first year in office.
According to the disclosed financial data, Trump earned more than $2.2 billion in 2025 from real estate, branded products such as branded Bibles, licensing deals and legal settlements. The Trump family's cryptocurrency projects brought in over $1 billion during his first year in the White House, sparking corruption accusations.
In addition, the U.S. leader received a licensing fee of $10.71 million for a documentary about his wife, Melania Trump, produced by Amazon MGM.
Earlier reports indicated that Amazon paid about $40 million for the film directed by Brett Ratner, including $28 million directly to the first lady. Amazon MGM also spent another $35 million on promoting the film.
In May this year, Jeff Bezos emphasized that his company's relationship with Trump had no political basis.
"By the way, it appears it was a good business decision. It did very well in theaters. It’s done very well on streaming," Bezos said in an interview with CNBC. “People are very curious about Melania. So even though I had nothing to do with it, it appears that the Amazon team made a very wise business decision.”
The film Melania shows the final 20 days of preparations for Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025. In particular, it features Melania Trump's participation in preparing the president's inaugural address. In one episode, she advises focusing on the words "peacemaker and unifier."
The film received mixed reviews. American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Robin Givhan wrote in a review for The Cut magazine that the film is "not only terrible but also frustrating." Not because the film is "technically incompetent, visually unappealing, or even boring. It’s frustratingly facile, an insult to self-awareness and a dead-eyed rebuke to irony."
