Former Russian official sought asylum in US to avoid military draft — report
Denis Sharonov, the former Agriculture
Minister of Russia’s Komi Republic, has fled Russia after getting a mobilization
notice and requested political asylum in the United States, independent
Russian media outlet RTVI reported on Aug. 15.
In the interview with RTVI, Sharonov said he now works as a truck driver in the United States.
The journalists contacted him after he posted a video describing his decision to flee Russia. Sharonov was dismissed from his ministerial post in January 2022 and received a mobilization notice in October 2022.
“… I’ve been to the United States 28 years ago, as a student; I studied here for a year and realized that locals treat blue-collar workers completely differently here,” he explained his willingness to drive trucks for a living after his career in Russia.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
