Former SBU department head taken into custody on corruption charges

A former head of the internal supply
department at Ukraine’s SBU security service, suspected of embezzling
state funds during fuel purchases, has been taken into custody for 60 days with
a UAH 3 million ($76,000) bail, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine
announced on April 12.
The court did not disclose the name of the former official. The suspect is accused of deliberately organizing overpriced procurement of fuel and lubricants for official SBU vehicles and armored vehicles. The estimated damage from the embezzlement scheme exceeds UAH 26 million ($660,000).
If released on bail, he is required to regularly report to the case detective, remain within Kyiv Oblast, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, and comply with other restrictive measures.
On April 10, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) reported that, in cooperation with the SBU, it had exposed an embezzlement scheme involving funds allocated for SBU’s fuel needs in 2022.
