Focusing only on drones is a serious mistake, Zaluzhnyi says

It is a serious mistake to focus only on specific weapons such as drones, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom and former commander-in-chief of the armed forces, said in a column titled The war that changed everything. On historical mistakes, the role of progress and the new world published by Ukrainska Pravda on Sept. 15.
He argued that Russia’s war against Ukraine is also a war of changing strategies and doctrines.
“This is no longer a drone war,” Zaluzhnyi wrote. “Someone is about three years behind the times when it comes to drones. They simply no longer exist on their own. They evolved into weapon types more familiar to us, while reducing costs and increasing accessibility and effectiveness.”
He stressed that what is underway is a war of technologies, but not only that.
“It is also a war of strategies and doctrines that are constantly evolving under the pressure of progress,” he added. “Therefore, it is a major mistake to focus on individual technologies and their promotion merely as weapons that complement the Soviet strategy and, of course, require specifically Soviet-style executors.”
Zaluzhnyi also wrote that while the forms and methods of warfare have changed, its essence has remained the same. War, he said, is still “an act of violence, but now violence against the entire country.”
Today’s war technology has turned all of Ukraine into a vast wasteland, he argued.
“A vast wasteland, sparing no one – neither those in the trenches nor those in supposedly peaceful places, such as a supermarket,” he wrote. “Everything remains the same, yet the bombing process itself has changed, becoming more effective and, consequently, excessively cruel.”
Overnight into Sept. 15, Russia attacked Kyiv with jet-powered drones, and the assault continued into the morning. Hits were recorded at two gas stations in the Darnytskyi and Holosiyivskyi districts, at warehouses in Obolonskyi district, and at nonresidential buildings in the Solomyanskyi district.
“There are already seven injured people in the capital,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said earlier. “All are currently in city hospitals. Two of the wounded are in serious condition.”
Later, it became known that one of the injured died in the hospital.
