Ukraine nears completion of key defensive structures in five regions

The construction of defensive fortifications is nearing completion in five Ukrainian oblasts, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram on May 3.
Sumy, Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk, Kherson, and Kharkiv oblasts are all undergoing fortification construction, the ministry said.
Footage published by the ministry showcases the construction of trenches, bunkers, special obstacles, and more.
Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers allocated on Jan. 19 a record amount of over UAH 17 billion ($432 million) for the construction of military fortifications.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on March 12 that Ukraine is building three lines of defenses stretching 2,000 kilometers.
Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal announced on April 2 an additional UAH 5.6 billion ($142 million) for fortification construction in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, and Kherson oblasts. Another UAH 8 billion ($202 million) was announced on April 23.
