Attacker detained in case of slain Ukrainian basketball player in Germany

The killer of 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Volodymyr Yermakov has been detained in Germany, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko reported on Facebook on Feb. 12.
According to him, the Ukrainian FM has taken special control of the investigation into the murder of the Ukrainian basketball player in Germany.
Nikolenko said that the General Consulate in Dusseldorf has already held talks with the head of the Essen police. The consuls stated the need for a complete investigation and bringing the killer to justice.
According to available information, the police have already detained the attacker. Investigative actions are underway.
The consular office also monitors the treatment of another injured Ukrainian. He is being provided with the necessary medical care in an Essen hospital. The condition of the citizen of Ukraine is stable, there are no threats to his life.
In Germany, 17-year-old Ukrainian national basketball player Volodymyr Yermakov was stabbed to death in the street, and his friend Artem Kozachenko is in intensive care. The tragedy was reported by the Kyiv Basketball Federation.
The Federation stated that Yermakov and Kozachenko were attacked only because they are Ukrainians.
Yermakov was a member of the Ukrainian U-16 national team and played at the 2022 European Basketball Championship in Bulgaria.
