German chancellor candidate vows Taurus missiles for Ukraine
Robert Habeck, German Economy Minister and candidate for Chancellor of the Alliance 90/The Greens, promised to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles if elected, in an interview with ARD on Nov. 17.
“The answer to this question is yes,” he said, when asked if he would reconsider the Olaf Scholz’s decision not to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles.
He also added that arms deliveries have always been one of the “most difficult decisions” for the German government.
On Nov. 10, another German chancellor candidate, Friedrich Merz, said that he would give Russia an ultimatum to stop its aggression against Ukraine within 24 hours and would supply Taurus missiles to Kyiv if Putin did not accept it.
Earlier that day, media reported that U.S. President Joe Biden had authorized Ukraine to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory with U.S.-made ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 190 miles (306 km).
The French newspaper Le Figaro wrote that Britain and France had also authorized strikes deep into Russian territory with their long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles.
According to the New Your Times sources, Russian and North Korean troops are likely to become the first targets of the strikes to help defend Ukrainian forces in Kursk Oblast.
