A cargo plane has arrived in Russia from Iran, potentially transporting Shahed drones and parts, Nataliya Humenyuk, press officer for Ukraine’s Operational Command South, said on Jan. 11.
"As of yesterday, we received confirmation of another cargo plane arriving from Tehran to Moscow,” Humenyuk said.
“This may indicate the continued flow of both fully assembled drones and the parts needed for the Russians to assemble these weapons on their own territory."
Citing a knowledgeable source, UK news channel Sky News reported on Jan. 10 that Iran has also developed a new variety of attack drone, the Shahed-107, for Russian use.
The new drone was described as a "strike and reconnaissance" drone that could be equipped with technology to identify "high-value battlefield targets” like the British and American multiple-launch rocket systems used by Ukrainian forces.
Russia could also begin receiving Iranian short-range ballistic missiles as early as spring, according to a report by U.S. financial news outlet Wall Street Journal.
