Rome plans to provide Ukraine with $1.7 billion in new military aid in 2025, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported on July 10.
This aid is part of a $40 billion assistance package currently being discussed in NATO. The United States is expected to contribute half of the funds, while the remaining $20 billion will come from European allies.
According to the report, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni will sign a formal commitment to the aid funding on July 11—the last day of the ongoing NATO summit in Washington.
The newspaper also noted that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Italy contributed around $1.3 billion annually in arms and other goods and services.
