Kremlin plans to enforce Russian standards in schools in occupied territories of Ukraine

The Kremlin is set to strengthen the integration of educational institutions in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, aligning them with Russia’s education system, the National Resistance Center (NRC) reported on July 29.
According to NRC, the so-called “administration” in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, much of which is currently under occupation, has received instructions from the “Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science of Russia.” These instructions pertain to the adoption of new certification and accreditation standards for school educational institutions.
By the end of 2023, the occupiers and collaborators aim to “accredit” approximately 1,300 educational institutions in the region, allowing them to grant graduates diplomas conforming to to Russian-style education.
The Kremlin’s motive behind this move is to attract a larger number of young people from the occupied territories of Ukraine to pursue a higher education in Russia.
Earlier, the NRC also reported that the occupiers have resorted to making threats of deportation against Ukrainian teachers in the temporarily occupied areas if they refuse to cooperate with the “occupational authorities.”
Additionally, there have been documented incidents of searches conducted by Russian forces at the homes of teachers who declined to work in occupied schools. These searches are carried out in an attempt to find evidence of collaboration between the teachers and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
