Last Ukraine-Russia border crossing closed as fighting in Kursk Oblast continues

The last remaining border crossing between Ukraine and Russia has been suspended for at least ten days, Ukrainian Deputy PM Iryna Vereshchuk told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Aug. 7.
The Kolotylivka-Pokrovka crossing in Sumy Oblast served as the only remining humanitarian corridor between the warring countries. As Ukraine is conducting a military operation in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, just across the border from Sumy Oblast, the security situation in the area has deteriorated significantly.
“There is an escalation in Sumy Oblast,” said Vereshchuk.
“We see that the enemy is shelling our territories, and as of today, the Kolotylivka-Pokrovka corridor has been suspended. Our military says this will last at least ten current days.”
Vereshchuk noted that the Mokrany-Domanove humanitarian corridor through Belarus remains operational. She urged people wishing to leave Russia-occupied areas for Ukraine to travel through Belarus.
“If necessary, please contact our hotline at 15-48, especially if there are issues with documents or any other problems; we will provide assistance,” the official added.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
