Lviv university professor resigns over husband’s controversial dealings with Defense Ministry

Lviv Polytechnic University has confirmed the resignation of Svitlana Hrynkevych, the wife of businessman Ihor Hrynkevych, who is suspected of corruption related to Defense Ministry procurement, RFE/RL reported on Jan. 11.
She voluntarily resigned from her position at the Department of Marketing and Logistics, with the request granted immediately.
NV's source in law enforcement said earlier that a court had seized the assets of Ihor Hrynkevych, who was one of the largest suppliers to the Defense Ministry.
According to investigators, he may be involved in fraudulent contracts to purchase clothing and underwear for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The businessman's companies won 23 ministry contracts worth more than UAH 1.5 billion ($39.6 million).
The complete failure to fulfill six contracts, as well as low-quality of goods delivered, has lost the Ukrainian state budged UAH 1.2 billion ($31.7 million), the State Bureau of Investigation said.
Hrynkevych reportedly offered a bribe of $500,000 to the bureau's employees in December 2023 to unfreeze his assets.
Hrynkevych was detained on Dec. 29, 2023, and charged with bribery. The court remanded him in custody with bail set at UAH 420 million ($11.1 million).
Deputy Defense Minister Vitaliy Polovenko announced on Jan. 9 that the department had terminated all contracts with Hrynkevych and his companies.
Only one contract with affiliated companies remained in force. The ministry said that it was scrutinizing the deal "under a microscope."
