Magyar calls for celebration as Hungary turns page on Orbán

Hungary’s prime minister-elect, Péter Magyar, urged
Hungarians ahead of his swearing-in to celebrate the end of Viktor Orbán’s
16-year rule, AP
reported on May 8.
Magyar is set to take the oath of office on May 9. Thousands
of people are expected to gather outside the Hungarian parliament building,
where the ceremony will take place.
The new head of government urged Hungarians to turn the day
into a celebration. “We will cross the threshold of regime change with a grand
celebration. Come and invite your families and friends!” Magyar wrote earlier on
social media.
Hungary held parliamentary elections on April 12. The Tisza
party, led by Péter Magyar, won the vote.
Magyar has already said one of his first steps as head of
government will be to suspend state media operations.
In late April, Reuters, citing Péter Magyar, reported that
Hungary’s tax authorities had blocked people linked to Antal Rogán, a top aide
to former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, from transferring money abroad.
