Russian forces launched a massive combined ballistic missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight on September 1, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported, publishing photos of the aftermath.
The attack killed eight people and wounded five others, including three children.
The aerial bombardment ignited fires at two separate locations in the capital’s Darnytskyi district. First responders have successfully contained the blazes.
The Darnytskyi district bore the brunt of the assault, with seven of the city's eight fatalities recorded there. Another victim remains hospitalized in critical condition, while a separate blast wave in the same district injured two more people, including a child.
A missile strike also hit a non-residential building in the Holosiivskyi district, triggering a fire that killed one person.
Debris from a downed drone crashed into a private home, partially destroying the structure. Emergency responders successfully rescued a man and pulled a woman from the rubble before transferring both victims to paramedics.

The attack caused widespread damage, completely leveling a repair workshop.
Kyiv endured 11 separate air raid alerts on August 31 as Russian forces swarmed the capital with jet-powered drones, leaving eight people injured. The relentless barrage marks the fifth consecutive day of near-constant drone strikes plaguing the capital and the surrounding region since the assault intensified on August 27.
