The German government announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, air defense systems, and HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems, the government press service reported on June 14.
The aid package from Germany will include:
- 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks and ammunition
- 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition
- IRIS-T SLM air defense missile system
- IRIS-T SLS air defense missile system
- Three HIMARS multiple rocket launch systems
- 21,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition
- 128 rounds of fog/light 155mm ammunition
- Two Biber bridge-laying tanks with spare parts
- Two Pionierpanzer Dachs tanks
- One Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle and spare parts
- Four Wisent 1 mine clearance tanks with spare parts
- 16 Mercedes-Benz Zetros fuel tankers
- Four drone sensors and jammers
- Three AMPS helicopter protection systems
- Rescue boats
- 100 Haenel CR308 rifles, 85 Haenel HLR338 sniper rifles, 100 Haenel MK556 assault rifles
- Four million rounds of small arms ammunition
- 100 night vision devices
Germany is one of the leading European suppliers of military aid to Ukraine. The country has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with various models of Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, MARS II multiple launch rocket systems, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, as well as a significant amount of armored vehicles and other equipment.
Reuters, citing its sources, reported on May 21 that Germany plans to increase its military aid spending for Ukraine by EUR 3.8 billion ($4 billion) over the course of 2024.
Germany delivered a new military aid package to Ukraine on May 24, which included 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, a Bergepanzer 2 ARV recovery vehicle, 16 Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks, and ammunition.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
