More than ten drones downed around Moscow, buildings hit, Russian media say
Moscow experienced a drone attack in the morning hours of May 30 that resulted in “minor damage” to several buildings, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has reported.
“All emergency services in the city are at the scene. They are investigating the circumstances of the incident,” a statement from the Moscow mayor on Telegram reads.
Sobyanin said that “there were no serious injuries” and that residents from sections of two buildings were safely evacuated with the assistance of emergency services. However, he did not disclose the specific locations where the buildings were damaged.
According to Russian media, one drone struck the upper floors of a residential building at 98 Profsoyuznaya Street, leading to damage to its facade and windows.
A second drone was reported to have hit a 24-story residential building on Atlasova Street in Novaya Moskva.
A third was reported to have hit a building on Leninsky Prospekt.
Andrey Vorobyov, the governor of Moscow Oblast, reported that multiple drones were intercepted while approaching Moscow. He said that the sounds of explosions heard by Moscow residents early in the morning were those of air defense systems operating.
Russian Telegram channel Baza reported that more than ten drones were downed in Moscow Oblast, primarily in the districts of Istrinsky, Krasnogorsky, and Odintsovsky. Other Telegram channels reported that the drones were shot down above Rublyovka, an elite suburb to the west of Moscow.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed an attack by drones on “objects” in Moscow during the morning of May 30, and accused Ukraine of being responsible. The ministry claimed that a total of eight drones were involved and all were successfully neutralized.
The ministry said that the attack was carried out using aerial drones. It claimed three of the drones, supposedly “jammed” by electronic warfare means, lost control and deviated from their intended targets. Additionally, according to the ministry, five drones were shot down in Moscow Oblast by the Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system.
Meanwhile, Russian media reported numerous drones being downed in Moscow Oblast, with over ten drones striking three buildings and resulting in the evacuation of residents. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported “minor damage.”
