Nearly half of international students in Poland come from Ukraine
In the 2023-2024 academic year, 19,900 Ukrainian students were enrolled in Polish universities. By the end of the previous academic year, 45,000 Ukrainians were studying in the country, accounting for 45% of all foreign students.
This was reported by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform, citing the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, on Nov. 6.
According to the Polish ministry, out of the 19,900 students enrolled in the current academic year, 11,900 were attending private institutions, 7,800 were in public universities, and 200 were enrolled in church-affiliated universities.
Overall, 102,700 foreign students were studying in Polish universities during the 2023-2024 academic year.
The ministry also stated that Ukrainian students are exempt from tuition fees for full-time studies if they are covered under the special law providing aid to Ukrainian citizens due to the war in Ukraine and are attending public universities. These students are also eligible for subsidized scholarships and student loans.
