No plans for Berlin to send Ukraine Taurus missiles — report

The German government does not currently intend
to provide Ukraine with Taurus
long-range cruise missiles in near future, German newspaper Bild reported on
Oct. 4, citing German and Ukrainian government sources.
While Berlin has not officially declined to supply the missiles, it has made clear in private discussions that "the missiles will not be provided, for now."
The journalists add that Chancellor Olaf Scholz keeps the question of Taurus for Ukraine open, but the likelihood of supplying them soon is considered quite small.
At the same time, the report clarifies that during negotiations with the German side, Ukrainian government representatives were made to understand that Germany wants to do everything possible to further strengthen Ukraine's air defense by supplying more Patriot anti-air missiles, in particular.
On Sept. 27, The Washington Post reported that Scholz remains reluctant to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles due to concerns that the move could drag Germany into the conflict with Russia directly.
DerOn August 11, Spiegel reported that the German government is exploring the possibility of providing Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles in the coming months. The chancellor reportedly asked to modify the missiles to make them unusable for strikes on sovereign Russian territory.
