The Third
Army Corps confirmed a Ukrainian Defense Forces offensive in northern
Donetsk Oblast on Sept. 15, 2026. The first phase of Operation Vivaldi began in
May, with four phases planned in total.
The operation is aimed at eliminating Russian infiltration efforts and
restoring control over territory north of the city of Lyman. At least five
brigades and four Defense Forces units are taking part.
NV highlights the key details of Operation Vivaldi in its infographic.
Results of Ukraine’s Defense Forces
- 75 square kilometers of territory cleared, including the
villages of Novoselivka, Oleksandrivka and Yarova and the outskirts of Korovii
Yar.
- 10 square kilometers of territory liberated, including the
village of Serednie in the Lyman community.
- Up to 120 kilometers from the front line — the
drone-control zone has been extended.
- 250 kilometers added to the evacuation route for equipment
of Russia’s 144th Motorized Rifle Division.
Consequences for the Russian army
- Losses: about 1,500 soldiers, more than 12,000 drones, and
hundreds of armored vehicles, artillery systems and other vehicles.
- Dispersal of Russian ammunition and fuel depots in forested
areas and on Russian territory.
- Dismantling by Russian forces of a pipeline that supplied
fuel from Russia to Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories.
- Redeployment of Russian forces from Ukraine’s temporarily
occupied territories to Russia’s Voronezh Oblast.
