Power outage hits Russia-occupied Donetsk and Makiivka, leaving 150,000+ consumers without electricity

Approximately 152,000 residents in Russia-occupied Donetsk and Makiivka were plunged into darkness, local publication Novyny Donbasu or ND reported on Jan. 22, citing the Russian occupation authorities in Donetsk.
The cities are grappling with non-functional traffic lights and communication breakdowns due to the widespread power outage.
The suspension of operations at several boiler houses has left 1,426 homes without heating in Donetsk.
Donetsk was subjected to shelling on Jan. 21. According to Russian media, citing Denis Pushilin, a Kremlin-backed puppet in the so-called “DPR,” the casualties from the market shelling have now reached 28. The occupiers, following their pattern, promptly attributed the attack to the Ukrainian army.
Two substations were on fire in Makiivka and Donetsk on Jan. 22, the ND said. The occupation authorities claimed that shelling caused the fire. A portion of the water supply systems in these cities is now without power.
Ukraine has a stated policy of not targeting civilians and of taking extra precautions in operations in or near Russian-occupied Ukrainian cities.
