Parliamentary committee approves martial law extension
National Security Committee of the Ukrainian parliament has approved a three-month-long martial law extension, meaning the proposal will be heading for a vote in near future, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said in a Telegram post on Aug. 14.
“Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence has approved Bill 7664 and Bill 7665, which would extend martial law and general mobilization by 90 days,” said Zheleznyak.
Should the parliament vote in favor, the move would extend martial law in Ukraine by 90 days, until late November.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested the extension on Aug. 12.
As it currently stands, martial law and general mobilization are declared across Ukraine until Aug. 23.
This would the fourth martial law extension since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
