More than half of Germans support arms supplies to Ukraine – poll

About 52% of Germans surveyed support supplying weapons to Ukraine, according to an ARD-Deutschlandtrend poll on Sept. 4.
According to the survey, 38% of Germans consider arms deliveries to Ukraine appropriate, while 14% support increasing them.
At the same time, 42% of respondents said arms deliveries "go too far." Pollsters noted that such a high figure had not been recorded in recent years.
Among voters in eastern Germany, a majority, 54%, said arms deliveries were excessive.
The survey also found that maintaining peace in Europe is one of the biggest foreign policy challenges facing the German government.
Among Germany's political parties, respondents placed the most trust in the CDU/CSU to address the issue, with 23% saying the alliance was the most capable, compared with 16% for the Alternative for Germany and 12% for the Social Democratic Party.
Other parties, including the Greens at 8%, the Left at 6%, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance at 3% and the FDP at 2%, received lower levels of public confidence on the issue.
On Sept. 3, Der Spiegel, citing sources, reported that the German government planned to increase military aid to Ukraine after Berlin determined that Russia was involved in a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport in early August.
Overnight into Aug. 5, a drone carrying a detonator and explosives was discovered at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport, which has served as a base for Ukrainian Antonov aircraft since 2022. The drone was found on the runway near a Ukrainian An-124 Ruslan cargo plane.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
