Russia blows up Kakhovka HPP in southern Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian authorities say

Invading Russian forces blew up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) in Ukraine’s southern Kherson Oblast overnight on June 6, Ukrainian authorities have reported.
“The Kakhovka HPP was blown up by the Russian occupying forces,” the Operational Command South reported on Facebook early on June 6.
“The scale of the destruction, the speed and volume of water, the probable areas of flooding are currently being clarified.”
Both the Interior Ministry and the local authorities also reported on the situation at Kakhovka HPP.
The head of the Kherson Regional Council, Oleksandr Samoilenko, said the peak of flooding is expected around 11.00 a.m. Kyiv time.
The local authorities have announced evacuation by buses on the right bank of the Dnipro River in the city of Kherson and villages where flooding is expected.
The Ukrainian authorities also called on the residents of the occupied left-bank part of Kherson Oblast to take care of their safety.
“Russian terrorists. The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam only confirms for the whole world that they must be expelled from every corner of Ukrainian land,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Facebook.
“Not a single meter should be left to them, because they use every meter for terror. It’s only Ukraine's victory that will return security. And this victory will come. The terrorists will not be able to stop Ukraine with water, missiles or anything else.”
Zelenskyy also said that all emergency services are working at the scene.
“I have convened the National Security and Defense Council,” he said.
“Please spread official and verified information only.”
