Sanctions pushing Russia to replace foreign ship engines, missile parts, with low-quality Russian products, Ukrainian Navy says

Due to sanctions, Russia is forced to replace foreign technologies with its own analogous products, which are unreliable, Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, stated at the Ukraine Media Center on Sept. 26, citing Russian ships as an example.
"When they were building, for example, the ‘Admiralty’ series of 12 ships, they initially had German engines," Pletenchuk said.
“After the war against Ukraine began in 2014, Russia began to install Chinese engines. Now they are planning to finish this series with Russian engines. You can imagine how much the quality and reliability of these products will decline, as Russia remains a backward country in terms of technology.”
The Russians have a similar situation with missiles, which, according to Pletenchuk, are the main weapon used by Russian ships and submarines in the war against Ukraine.
Russian missiles have 30 to 50 parts of foreign origin, the spokesman said. If the sanctions are successfully circumvented, Russia could increase missile production, but for now Russia is being forced to replace foreign technology with its low-quality counterparts.
Pletenchuk also said that there are three missile carriers in the Black Sea at almost all times, including now.
"The rest of the Black Sea Fleet is hiding in bays or somewhere around the corner of Crimea, where they consider themselves more or less protected due to the presence of boom barriers and at least some air defense systems,” he said.
The United States recently imposed sanctions against companies from Russia, Europe and Asia that supply components for the production of Orlan, Shahed and other UAVs used by Russia, Ukraine’s Office of the President reported on Sept. 26.
