Russia resorts to desperate measures, deploys old barges to shield Novorossiysk port from Ukrainian attacks
Russia is trying to protect its facilities in Novorossiysk port from Ukrainian attacks, reports British intelligence in their latest review published on X on March 31.
Intelligence notes that recent satellite images shows that entrance to port of Novorossiysk has been partially blocked by 4 barges. They say that this is an attempt to strengthen the port's defense against attacks by Ukrainian surface drones.
After a series of successful Ukrainian attacks on the port of Sevastopol, Novorossiysk has become main base protecting the most valuable assets of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
British intelligence recalled that former commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, was replaced after Ukraine's success in using surface drones against Russian targets both at sea and in the port.
His successor, Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk, may have tried to increase the chances of survival of Russian ships by taking additional preventive and defensive measures, including narrowing the passage to port facilities.
