Russian army loses 18 tanks, over 1,400 soldiers in a day — General Staff

Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the aggressor has lost about 489,000 troops killed and wounded, including 1,410 in the past day, according to Ukraine’s General Staff update posted on Facebook on May 17.
As of May 17, Russian army losses are as follows:
- Personnel: about 489,870 (+1,410) soldiers
- Tanks: 7,547 (+18) units
- Armored combat vehicles: 14,552 (+14) units
- Artillery systems: 12,603 (+38) units
- Multiple-launch rocket systems: 1,071 (+1) units
- Air defense systems: 800 (+2) units
- Warplanes: 353 (+2) units
- Helicopters: 326 (+1) units
- UAVs (operational and tactical level): 10,073 (+45)
- Cruise missiles: 2,200 (+0)
- Warships/military boats: 26 (+0) units
- Submarines: 1 (+0) units
- Motor vehicles and fuel tankers: 17,104 (+56) units
- Special equipment: 2,062 (+7) units.
Russian losses in the war against Ukraine
The spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalyov, said on Feb. 27 that the total losses of the aggressor state, published by the General Staff, consist of two main indicators: irrecoverable losses and combat sanitary losses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Russian losses amounted to 180,000 killed and up to 500,000 wounded.
Nazar Voloshyn, a spokesman for the Khortytsia operational and strategic troop grouping, said on April 25 that Russia suffers 85% of its losses on the eastern front, affecting both personnel and equipment.
"Russia has already lost 500,000 troops in the war against Ukraine," Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said on May 3.
