Russian attacks on Ukrainian air bases ineffective, Air Force spokesperson says

Russian attacks on Ukrainian airfields are futile because Ukrainian aircraft relocate promptly before a strike comes, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Aug. 6.
The recent Russian attack on the air base near Starokonstantyniv wasn't the first one, because it is a tactical aviation brigade's base, he said.
"However, our aircraft move promptly and our pilots know how to deal with the enemy in the current condition. We have dozens of air bases at operational levels in Ukraine. Therefore, the enemy will not be able to destroy our aviation so easily," Ihnat said.
The Ukrainian Air Force has certain procedures to counter Russian attacks, in particular, constant relocation of aircraft, Ihnat said.
"I believe that our pilots will soon show Russians their place," he added.
Russia launched several barrages of missiles and drones against Ukraine overnight on Aug. 6.
The Russian military carried out three attacks on Khmelnytsky Oblast in Ukraine's west on Aug. 5 alone. Most of the missiles were shot down. However, civilian facilities were damaged in Starokonstantyniv District by blast waves.
A total of 57 out of 70 weapons used against Ukraine were downed in an attack overnight on Aug. 6. The Ukrainian Air Force said air defences downed 57 of aerial targets, including 30 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed suicide drones.
It was not the first time Russians targeted Starokonstantyniv air base. Last time, they launched 13 missiles at it on June 23. All of the attacking missiles were shot down.
However, they did hit the air base on May 29. The Ukrainian Air Force reported "some damage" and a fire, but revealed no further information for security reasons.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
