Russian authorities investigate mysterious drone crashes on Kaluga Oblast highway
Two drones have crashed on a highway in Russia's Kaluga Oblast, local authorities said on June 5, the UK newspaper the Guardian has reported.
Reports of the incident were also posted on Russian news outlets on the Telegram early on June 5. Photographs showed two small, gray, delta-winged drones laying by a roadside, with no visible markings.
Governor Vladislav Shapsha said that two drones had crashed onto the M3 “Ukraine” highway in Kaluga Oblast. The first unmanned aerial vehicle fell on the 299th kilometer mark of the road, and the second on the 283rd kilometer mark, the governor said.
There were no explosions. The authorities have cordoned off the area.
In the early hours of June 2, kamikaze drones attacked an oil refinery and gas distributionstation in Smolensk Oblast in Russia, which neighbors Kaluga Oblast to the west.
