Russian citizen detained for glorifying war crimes in Irpin
Ukrainian authorities detained a Russian citizen in Irpin, near Kyiv, for drug trafficking, only to find videos on his phone where he marvels at the war crimes committed by Russian forces, Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reported on Feb. 20.
The Office has charged the 25-year-old Russian with illegally selling cannabis and distributing content that defends Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. "We've forwarded to the court the case against a 25-year-old Russian, charged with peddling cannabis and sharing content that excuses Russia's military onslaught on Ukraine," the statement detailed.
Captured during strolls through Irpin, a community ravaged by Russia's comprehensive invasion in 2022, the damning footage was casually saved on his device.
"Strolling through Irpin, right next to the infamous Bucha, gives me a peculiar sensation”, said the supporter of the Russian military, oblivious to how these confessions would backfire. “Seeing all this destruction, I can't help but think: Wow, this is the wrath of God. It's as if a flame engulfs me, knowing that the Russians have passed through here... The buildings lie in ruins, yet it strangely inspires me."
The Moscow region native now faces criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 307 (illegal distribution of cannabis) and Part 2 of Article 436-2 (distribution of materials that justify the armed aggression of the Russian Federation) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
