Ukraine knocks out 41 of 42 attack drones after Russia fires wave after wave in 7-hr siege of Odesa
Eleven civilians were injured, including three children, and five were sent to hospital after Russia pummeled Odesa with wave after wave of kamikaze drones for over seven hours overnight on Dec. 14, Odesa Regional State Administration head, Oleh Kiper, reported.
Ukrainian air defense intercepted 41 of 42 Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones launched by Russia, Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed.
Russia attacked Odesa with waves of attack drones beginning around 7:00 PM on Dec. 13 and lasting for over seven hours. The invaders attacked from three distinct directions: Balaklava, Chauda in occupied Crimea and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia.
In addition to the injured, 11 buildings were damaged, and one car caught fire. A mobile heating point on-site was established, and State Emergency Service (DSNS) psychologists assisted those in need.
Significant damage to port infrastructure was recorded in the Izmailsky district of Odesa Oblast, which took the brunt of the attack with more than half of the 42 drones targeting the area.
Ukrainian air defense thwarted the drone attack by deploying anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire groups from the Air Force and other defense components.
Russia also attacked other areas of southern Ukraine.
At midnight, the Russian invaders launched six guided anti-aircraft missiles (S-300) from the occupied territory of Kherson Oblast toward the direction of Mykolaiv and the de-occupied Kherson regions.
