Russian tennis player banned for nearly 5 years for anti-corruption violations

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has disqualified Russian tennis player Anastasia Sukhotina for multiple violations of anti-corruption rules, according to a statement on the agency's official website on July 29.
The 26-year-old athlete was suspended for four years and 10 months and fined $30,000, of which $22,500 is suspended. The ban began July 17, 2026, and runs through May 16, 2031.
Sukhotina initially denied the allegations against her but ultimately accepted a sanction negotiated directly with the ITIA. She admitted to eight anti-corruption rule violations committed between 2019 and 2024.
According to the agency, the violations grew progressively more serious over time, ranging from attempts to bet on tennis matches to corrupt influence over other players and the destruction of evidence.
Sukhotina reached a career-high world ranking of 607th in singles, which she achieved in August 2019.
Earlier, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova was banned for four years after refusing to take a doping test.
