Scholz calling Putin interferes with Trump’s push for Ukraine peace — Duda
Poland's President Andrzej Duda has accused German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of trying to exclude U.S. President-elect Donald Trump from potential negotiations to end the Russo-Ukrainian war, Bloomberg reported on Nov. 18.
Duda made the comment in response to a recent phone call between Scholz and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
“I believe it was an attempt to bring about a cease-fire in Ukraine before Donald Trump took office,” the Polish president said.
He also criticized Scholz’s decision to invite U.S. President Joe Biden to talks about Ukraine's future with French and UK leaders, while excluding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Duda suggested that Scholz is worried about being pushed into unfavorable agreements with Washington when Trump returns to power and is trying to preempt that possibility.
“What the Germans are most afraid of is that Donald Trump will force them to buy [natural] gas from America,” he added.
