Ukraine’s Ambassador to Slovakia reacts to PM Fico's words about "provoking Russia"
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Slovakia, Myroslav Kastran, condemned Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s statements about Russia requiring "security guarantees" in a Facebook post on Jan. 11.
In a Jan. 10 column in the Slovak newspaper Pravda, Fico called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a "crisis,” argued that "there is no military solution" to the conflict, and claimed that the EU and Russia "need each other."
Fico also repeated Russian propaganda narratives about the supposed "oppression” of Russian-speaking Ukrainians before 2014, as well as Kyiv’s “dependence on the United States.”
Fico agreed that Russia has violated international law, but Kastran criticized his language as "too soft" in light of the crimes that Russia has committed in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022.
"One thing is to be said: all these actions are nothing but an act of genocide against the people of Ukraine,” Kastran wrote.
He added that Russia seeks to “destroy Ukraine as an independent state” and to eliminate the Ukrainian nation, “the very existence of which the aggressor has openly denied.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
