Slovak President on anti-Ukrainian views of Fico's government

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová highlighted the divergence between the views of Slovakia's current PM Robert Fico and those of most European countries, speaking during a briefing in Prague, Radio Svoboda reported on Telegram on March 19.
Many European countries have decided to support Ukraine, aiming to bolster its negotiating position for future talks, Čaputová said.
"This is absolutely fair and correct,” she said.
“This was also the position of previous Slovak governments. However, it seems that this administration has a different view."
Czechia likely decided to suspend intergovernmental consultations with Slovakia due to recent statements made by members of the government, Čaputová said.
Slovakia's Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák announced in November 2023 during a visit to Brussels that the new Slovak government had decided to halt the transfer of military aid to Ukraine from its reserves.
On March 8, Andrej Danko, Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament and leader of the pro-Russian Slovak National Party, said that Russia “is not an aggressor, but only defends its interests” in the war against Ukraine.
Fico has also repeatedly spread Russian narratives about the war in Ukraine. He claimed that the war in 2014 allegedly began because of “Ukrainian Nazis.” He is convinced that Russia “will never leave Crimea and the territories it controls.”
In January, Fico said that Ukraine “must give” Russia part of its territory to end the war.
He also argues that “it is better for Ukraine and Russia to negotiate over the next ten years than to kill each other.”
