Save Ukraine returns 5 more Ukrainian children and their families from occupied territories
Ukraine has successfully returned two girls and three boys aged 4 to 16, including one orphan, from the Temporarily Occupied Territories (TOT), Kherson Oblast governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported on Telegram on Feb. 29.
“The Save Ukraine team helped 6 more Ukrainian children and their families escape from the temporarily occupied territory,” the foundation clarified in its Feb. 29 statement.
“To date, we have successfully repatriated 251 children back to Ukraine from Russia and the TOT.”
On Feb. 20, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported the return of six girls, including two-year-old twins, and five boys. The children were returned with the help of mediation by Qatar and with the support of UNICEF.
According to the Ukrainian state platform, Children of War, as of Jan. 2024, 19,546 children had been abducted or forcibly transferred to Russia.
On Jan. 14, 2024, Lubinets announced during the fourth meeting of the Peace Formula Advisors in Davos that Ukraine had repatriated 517 illegally deported children and 2,828 adults from Russia, including 150 civilians.
The ICC issued arrest warrants on March 17 for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Lvova-Belova for their involvement in the unlawful removal of children from Ukraine to the Russian Federation since Feb. 24, 2022.
On Feb. 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the exact number of Ukrainians, including children, adult civilians, and military personnel, in Russian custody is uncertain.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
