Turkey to host signing of trilateral pact in January for NATO allies to clear mines in Black Sea
Turkey, Bulgaria, and Romania will sign an rewards, with the signing expected to take place on Jan. 11 in Istanbul, Turkish outlet TRT Haber reports.
"The restoration of peace and stability in the Black Sea is important for the whole world, especially for coastal states," Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said.
“We are carefully, responsibly and impartially implementing the Montreux Straits Convention, which ensures balance in the Black Sea, and we are determined to continue to do so.”
The decision to sign the agreement was made within the framework of the Trilateral Initiative, which was launched under Turkish leadership. The demining operation will not be considered a NATO special operation.
