Border crossings between Poland
and Ukraine could become targets of Russian attacks, Polish PM Donald Tusk said
on Sept. 10.
Tusk made the comments during a news conference in Slovakia, Reuters reported. He said that Polish and Ukrainian special services have foiled an attack on one crossing.
“Last night, thanks to cooperation between our services and their Ukrainian counterparts, a direct threat to one of the border crossings was averted,” the PM said.
“As you know, Russia has already carried out provocative attacks on border crossings, for example in Moldova. We expect similar actions targeting border crossings with Ukraine in other countries, particularly Poland.”
Tusk also said he had received a “fairly precise report directly from the CIA” about Russian plans for the coming months. He said the report was consistent with what he had “been saying and warning about for months.”
“We must anticipate various scenarios; both Poland and all of Europe need to be prepared for different possibilities concerning the situation not only on the Russian-Ukrainian front but also along the EU’s eastern flank,” he said.
On Sept. 9, Andrii Demchenko, a spokesperson for
Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, said Russia had attacked Ukrainian border
crossings in Odesa region for the fifth time recently. Four of the targeted
crossings are on the border with Moldova, while another is on the border with
Romania.
